Why do I need this medicine?
Clopidogrel and Aspirin are combined in this medicine.

Clopidogrel + Aspirin is a blood-thinning medicine. It prevents special cells in the blood from sticking to each other. This reduces the risk of harmful blood clots forming in your body. Blood clots that form in a blood vessel inside the heart or brain can cause a heart attack or stroke.

This medicine is used to reduce the risk of heart attacks and stroke in people who have a high risk of getting them. This includes those who have had a heart attack or stroke before and are at risk of getting of experiencing them again.

Clopidogrel + Aspirin may also be used to prevent blood clots in people who have had stents inserted into their heart arteries.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Clopidogrel + Aspirin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. You may take it with food to reduce any stomach discomfort that this medicine may cause. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Clopidogrel + Aspirin is available as a tablet or capsule.

Swallow the tablet or capsule whole with a glass of water.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition.

Clopidogrel + Aspirin must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
If you miss a dose and it is within less than 12 hours of your usual time, take the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

If you missed your dose for more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not take this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Clopidogrel, Aspirin, or certain painkillers such as ibuprofen.

Alert your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
  • asthma with rhinitis (inflammation of the inside lining of the nose caused by allergens) or nasal polyps (soft, painless, noncancerous growths on the lining of the nose or sinuses)
  • active stomach or bowel ulcer
  • bleeding in the brain, stomach or bowel
  • bleeding disorder or tendencies to bleed
  • severe liver disease
  • severe kidney disease
as Clopidogrel + Aspirin may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are in your 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Clopidogrel + Aspirin may cause harm to your unborn child.

Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • recent history of stroke
  • history of stomach ulcer, bleeding, or minor bowel symptoms
  • eye lesions
  • G6PD deficiency (an inherited blood disorder that affects the red blood cell)
  • gout (high uric acid level in the blood)
  • history of asthma or allergies
  • previous allergy or blood reactions to a certain type of medicine similar to Clopidogrel
  • mild to moderate liver disease
  • mild to moderate kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are in your 1st or 2nd trimester of pregnancy.

Notify your doctor if you consume large amounts of alcohol.

Individuals who are intermediate and poor metabolisers of CYP2C19 may experience enhanced side effects of Clopidogrel + Aspirin. Although not routinely done, your doctor may advise you to undergo genetic testing to check if this medicine is best suited for you. If you know you have this gene type, inform your doctor.

If you are going to undergo certain laboratory tests or have an operation, including minor operations and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Clopidogrel + Aspirin.

Why is it important to keep my appointments with the doctor?

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
  • Routine tests (e.g. complete blood count) may be done while you are being treated with this medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
  • Regular monitoring for signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, stomach ulcers and bleeding may also be needed.
What side effects could I experience?
Clopidogrel + Aspirin may cause any of the following side effects: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, taste disturbances, nosebleed, and ringing in the ears.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes, or mouth
  • pass out bloody or black as tar stools and vomiting blood or ground coffee-like material
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • other blood-thinning medicines e.g. warfarin, ticlopidne
  • medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. valproic acid, carbamazepine
  • medicines for gout e.g. probenecid, sulfinpyrazone
  • NSAIDs (medicines for pain and inflammation) e.g. ibuprofen
  • medicine that reduces stomach acid production e.g. esomeprazole, omeprazole
  • medicines to treat fungal infections e.g. voriconazole, fluconazole
  • medicines for depression e.g. fluvoxamine, fluoxetine
  • medicines for HIV infection e.g. efavirenz, ritonavir
  • medicines for diabetes e.g. chlorpropamide, insulin, repaglinide
  • rifampicin (medicine to treat TB, an infection known as tuberculosis)
  • methotrexate (medicine for cancer)
  • nicorandil (medicine for chest pain)
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Clopidogrel + Aspirin.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.

Avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
